Видиадхар Сураджпрасад Найпол — англоязычный писатель индийского происхождения, лауреат Нобелевской премии по литературе. Выступал с открытой критикой ислама. В 1953 году окончил Оксфордский университет, получив степень бакалавра искусств.

В 1993 году получил первую премию Дэвида Коэна. В 2001 году становится лауреатом Нобелевской премии по литературе за «непреклонную честность, что заставляет нас задуматься над фактами, которые обсуждать обычно не принято».
